Pregnancy & Postpartum Physiotherapy

Supporting Your Body Through Pregnancy and Recovery

Pregnancy and the postpartum period bring significant changes to the body. Shifts in posture, movement, strength, and load can influence comfort and function- whether you’re navigating physical changes during pregnancy, preparing your body for labor, or adapting to recovery and daily demands after birth

Pregnancy and postpartum physiotherapy focuses on supporting these transitions with individualized assessment and care. Appointments may include evaluation of movement patterns, posture, breathing, and pelvic floor function, along with education and guidance tailored to your goals. Care may also include strategies to prepare your body for labor, support recovery after birth, and help you move with greater comfort and confidence throughout this journey.

Why Clients Come to Us

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your pregnancy or postpartum physiotherapy appointment begins with a thorough conversation about your health history, symptoms, and goals. This helps your physiotherapist understand your unique experience and guide care that’s tailored to your needs. Assessment may include observation of posture, movement, and breathing, as well as discussion of how everyday activities and routines may affect your comfort and function.

Depending on your concerns and the available time, the appointment may include a pelvic floor assessment. This can be external or, if appropriate and you feel comfortable, internal. Many people have questions about this part of care, and your physiotherapist will explain what is involved and whether it is suitable for you. An internal assessment is never required, and it may take place in a future visit if it feels right. Your comfort, consent, and readiness guide every step of care.

Treatment and guidance focus on helping you move safely and confidently, supporting your body during pregnancy, preparing for labor, and promoting recovery postpartum. Plans are individualized and often emphasize practical daily habits, education, and gentle exercises, rather than long, time-consuming routines. Every step is collaborative, ensuring you feel supported and empowered in your care.
