What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct health care profession that combines the wisdom of nature with the rigours of modern science. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained as primary care providers who diagnose, treat and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions, while addressing disease and dysfunction.

NDs concentrate on whole patient wellness through health promotion and disease prevention, while addressing the underlying cause of the patient’s condition. Naturopathic physicians care for patients of all ages and genders, and practice in settings ranging from private clinics to integrative medical centres, urgent care clinics and hospitals. They provide individualized, evidence-informed therapies that balance the least harmful and most effective approaches in order to help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain peak health. For optimal health and quality of life, a Naturopath is a valuable member of every Canadian’s personal healthcare team.

In addition to nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, physical medicine, and blood lab analysis, Dr. Batting offers acupuncture, cupping, IV Vitamin Therapy, and Bowen Therapy.

On this page you will find information on:

What to Expect

The Initial Intake appointment is a 60-minute, in-depth consultation where Dr. Batting will review your health history and discuss your current health concerns. Any relevant physical exams will be completed and together you will come up with your health goals. Recent bloodwork can be sent to Dr. Batting before your first visit. We may recommend additional testing that could be helpful in gathering a complete picture of your health.

In addition to the standard Initial Intake, Dr. Batting offers treatment specific assessment options for those who are interested in one of the following services: IV Therapy, Vitamin Injection, Acupuncture, Cupping or Bowen Therapy.

Services Offered:

Commonly Treated Conditions:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses small needles inserted into specific points to treat disease based on your Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis. It can also be used for tight sore muscles, and is fantastic at regulating hormones, fertility and symptom management in menopause. Acupuncture is also an excellent treatment option during pregnancy.

Cupping

Cupping is great for sore muscles, fascial adhesions and can be used to help detox the body as well as increase immunity and treat an acute cold.

IV Vitamin Therapy

IV nutrient therapy uses a custom formula of vitamins, minerals and amino acids in a saline IV bag, delivered through your bloodstream and therefore bypassing digestion. Please come hydrated and have a small meal or snack before your treatment.

IM Injection Therapy

Intramuscular injections offered include vitamin B12, vitamin D, adrenal formula, and weight loss support. These injections are delivered into the muscle – either the shoulder or hip. Appointments are very quick, taking only 5 minutes.

Glutathione Add-on

Glutathione is a master antioxident in the body, working against oxidative stress seen in aging and disease. It supports tissue building and repair, liver function, and the immune system. We offer Glutathione as an add-on supplement to IV Therapy.

Diagnostic Lab Testing

We offer a wide variety of blood, urine and salivary lab testing including:

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle and non-invasive physical medicine that acts on the nervous system by stimulating various areas on the body. This gentle manipulation of muscles, tendons and nerve points works to effectively restore their normal tone and function. Bowen Therapy can be used to treat many conditions such as infertility, bed wetting, constipation/diarrhea, insomnia and headaches. Bowen therapy helps to manage stress and is very relaxing.

Weight Loss Program (6 or 12 weeks)

Our Weight Loss program includes an initial visit and 5 follow up appointments, and is customized to meet your needs and goals. During the 30-minute initial visit we calculate your expenditure, discuss your goals, and come up with a plan. Each follow up appointment is 15 minutes, where we check in on your progress. All visits include a ‘weight loss support’ intramuscular injection. Although this program can be done on its own, for best results we recommend seeing Dr. Batting for an Initial Intake first, to ensure no labs or hormone support need to be addressed prior to starting the program.

Fertility

The journey to create your family is very exciting... but for many it can also be challenging, and stressful. There are many reasons someone may struggle to conceive, and just as many treatment options available to help you along your way.

Dr. Batting uses several early intervention treatment options to help with fertility such as Acupuncture, Cupping, Nutritional Support, Hormone Testing, Stress Management options and more. We're here to guide you, and will inform you of all your care choices, including referral options to other medical experts, when necessary.

Prenatal and Postpartum Support

The body goes through many changes throughout the prenatal and postpartum chapters, and it's extremely beneficial to have the support of a Naturopathic Doctor during these times.

An ND can fill the gaps that are present in the standard Prenatal Healthcare model. Whether you are under an ObGyn or a Midwife's care, there just isn't enough time during the prenatal appointments to address some of the finer points to wellness. Especially if you are faced with challenges such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, sleep disturbances, fluid retention, aches/pains etc, you may be looking for other treatment options. This is where a Naturopath can be a perfect fit within your Prenatal care team!

Prenatal and Postpartum treatment options include: Nutritional and Lifestyle Counseling, Diagnostic Lab Testing, Acupuncture, Cupping, and more.
