Perimenopause & Menopause
Perimenopause is the shifting of female hormones to the post fertility chapter of life. This transition includes varying degrees of hormone fluctuations over a period of time, before the body settles in to its new natural balance.
While this is a natural phase, it can come with some uncomfortable symptoms that vary greatly from person to person.
Acupuncture & TCM have been used for centuries to help ease this transition, including managing symptoms such as:
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Mood shifts
- Joint & muscle aches
- Difficulty sleeping
- Vaginal dryness
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Anxiety
- Decreased sex drive
- Weight changes
- Increased UTI's and yeast infections
- Trouble concentrating
- PMS like symptoms
- Changes in menstrual cycle
Pregnancy & Postpartum
From fertility, to pregnancy symptom management, to labour & birth preparation, and finally to postpartum support, acupuncture can help every step of the way!
Treatments during this period of time aim to balance the body. Whether that's via hormones, nervous system, muscle/joint tension, or the GI system.
Dr Tanya includes a variety of treatment techniques including:
- Acupuncture
- Moxibustion
- Herbs and nutritional recommendations
- Education
Nervous System Regulation
The Nervous System includes the vast network of nerves and chemical signals that connect the brain to the body.
The two main states of the Nervous System are:
1. The Sympathetic- commonly associated with being in a fight, flight or freeze state. Here our attention is
narrowly focused, senses are heightened, and heart/breathing rate are increased
2. The Parasympathetic- associated with the rest and digest phase. In this state our body is calm, heart/breathing rate is
decreased, and we have a sense of safety
Both phases are essential and are designed to be in balance with one another. Where issues arise is when we are locked into one state or another, or unable to efficiently switch between the two.
This can lead to symptoms such as:
- Stress, anxiety and panic
- Difficulty concentrating
- Sleep disturbances
- Mood shifts
- Changes to sex drive
- Muscular tension
- Headaches
Acupuncture is an effective way to regulate the nervous system, helping you feel in control of you body and mind.
