What is the Webster Technique?

Webster Technique is a gentle chiropractic analysis and treatment which is used to align the sacrum and pelvis during pregnancy. This treatment helps restore mobility to the Lumbosacral and Sacroiliac (SI) joints, and reduce muscle tension in both the pelvic floor and hips. When these components are functioning properly, it allows for more effective muscle contraction and improved stability in your low back and pelvis.

Dr Melissa is a Webster trained Chiropractor and she uses this gentle treatment to help prepare the body for labor and delivery.

In addition to the Webster Technique, Dr Melissa offers several Prenatal Chiropractic treatment options depending on your preferences. She is also certified as a Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist for those in need of Postpartum Rehabilitation for conditions involving the pelvic floor, abdmonial muscles or low back and pelvis.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does Webster Technique turn a breech baby?

It's a common misconception that Webster Technique is used to turn a breech presenting baby. While it may seem like semantics, it's important to make the distinction that this treatment is performed on the pregnant person, not the baby. By correcting the underlying biomechanical dysfunctions in the birthers pelvis and low back, it allows the body to do what it does naturally.

Is this treatment safe?

Yes! Webster Technique is an incredibly gentle treatment and safe for both the pregnant person and their baby. In fact, Chiropractic care (not just Webster Technique) is safe throughout pregnancy, and effective for treating the pain and discomfort that comes with the biomechanical changes of pregnancy. There are of course always exceptions and in the case of a high risk pregnancy Dr Melissa would ask you to discuss with your midwife or ObGyn prior to starting treatment.

How often do I need to have the Webster Technique performed?

Treatment plans are designed individually and will vary from person to person. Most patients require anywhere from 1 to 3 treatments weekly in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy. Many also find it beneficial to receive regular monthly or biweekly treatments throughout the entirety of their pregnancy. This can help to decrease the frequency of treatment needed in the last couple months.

When should I start the Webster Technique?

While this treatment can be started at any time, it would be most beneficial to start by 32 weeks. However, it's never too late! Any treatments you receive will help to correct imbalance in the pelvis prior to labor.

Is Webster Technique covered by my healthcare insurance benefits?

At Naturally Balanced, the Webster Technique is performed by chiropractor Dr Melissa Reinke and is classified as a chiropractic treatment. Most healthcare plans include chiropractic but if you are unsure, please contact your insurance company or health plan administrator.
